Girl About Town: Accessible Victoria

Good Fortune Restaurant

There’s a wonderful Chinese restaurant hiding out in Sidney that you absolutely MUST try! It’s well worth the 30 minute drive from Victoria, but be sure to make a reservation, because it is busy for good reason.

I was there just the other day with a vegetarian friend and we left feeling extremely satisfied and well fed. First of all, it must be said that the restaurant is extremely clean and modern with a lovely Asian flair. My friend and I always start out with sharing a half litre of house white wine (and no, we’re not drinking it ALL before dinner is served haha). The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating and anxious for patrons to be comfortable.

We ordered three dishes - vegetarian chow mein (traditional noodles with yummy veggies), almond gai ding (delicious vegetable stir fry with crunchy almonds in a light and savoury sauce), and ginger fried tofu - super tasty!!

ATMOSPHERE & ACCESSIBILITY

With respect to accessibility, the restaurant is at ground level (not a stair in sight!) and the tables and chairs are easily moveable, which makes getting situated quite easy. The bathrooms are very easy to access with my mobility scooter and a care aide, and extremely clean and pleasant.

VERDICT

The overall experience at the Good Fortune restaurant is top notch from the wonderful staff to the flavourful dishes, but it’s a busy place with a loyal clientele, so be sure make a reservation!
